Studio 200 is the last bar in this location owned and run by Sharon Dixon, who had originally opened the bar in 1982 as Fannies, which for many years was a popular lesbian bar. In September 2002 'Fannies' had just had a party to celebrate its 20 Year Anniversary, but had been struggling after numerous scandals and several confusing years of name changes. In October 2002, Fannies was remodeled and reopened as 'Pulse', and then a series of other LGBTQ bars (see below). Studio 200 was first seen in the "Cordially Yours" column in July 2011 (OutBound vol. 10-07), but we have been unable to find any advertisements, and few articles mentioning it. However we know it was a fairly popular bar for at least a few years, and utilized the famous fenced-in patio that had been built when it was "Fannies" bar. The building at 200 E. Washington was the location of a total of six LGBTQ bars:
Fannies (September 1983 to September 2002) After sitting vacant for six years following the closure of "Studio 200", the building was demolished in September, 2024-- still displaying the "Studio 200" name above the entrance. |
