As a lifelong Wisconsinite, Michail is fascinated by Milwaukee’s social and architectural history, and actively supports historic education, genealogy and preservation efforts. Michail has served numerous local organizations, including Historic Milwaukee, FUEL Milwaukee, Public Relations Society of America, Milwaukee Press Club, UPAF Next Generation, the Healing Center, the Historic Walker’s Point Neighborhood Association, Westown Association, the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce, ACLU of Wisconsin and Aurora Family Service.

Michail joined PrideFest Milwaukee in 2010 as the group’s first Social Media Manager, and one year later, joined the Board of Directors. In 2012, he led efforts to reinvent and relaunch the PrideFest Milwaukee website with a more modern, mobile-responsive design. Now the Communications Director of Milwaukee Pride, Inc., Michail oversees year-round communications efforts, including advertising, branding, social media, public relations and community partnerships. During the festival season, he partners with the Production Team on campaign design, development and syndication strategies. Michail is currently serving a two-year term as Vice President of the Board of Directors.

As a contributing writer to QLife News, QUEST and other publications, Michail is also an active producer for the Wisconsin LGBT History Project.

Recently, Michail curated "LGBT Milwaukee", an 'Images of Modern America' book celebrating Milwaukee's gay and lesbian heritage over the past 75 years (in collaboration with Don Schwamb and the Wisconsin LGBT History Project), which was published in August 2016 by the Arcadia Publishing and the History Press.

(An index to the book, and links to reviews and interviews with the author, is available at this link: Book Index.)

Michail regularly consults with local and national media outlets on LGBT historical matters, from articles to interviews to film specials. He also occasionally conducts Milwaukee LGBT-theme tours for Jane's Walk.

Michail also writes a series of articles for "OnMilwaukee.com", tracing the history of early LGBT life in Milwaukee. A few of those articles include the following:
