In May 2019, Governor Tony Evers appointed Israel "Issy" Ramon as the Milwaukee County Register of Deeds. He won the democratic primary election in a landslide defeating his opponent 65% to 35% in August of 2020. He ran unopposed in the general election becoming the first ever Latino Constitutional Officer in Wisconsin’s history. Prior to his appointment, the Register of Deeds Office had been raided by the FBI for criminal wrongdoing by the prior Register of Deeds. Ramón made a commitment to Governor Evers and the residents of Milwaukee County that he would clean up the Office by making it ethical, transparent, accountable to the public and follow state and federal laws. In making the appointment, Governor Tony Evers noted, "Israel Ramón is the kind of principled, organized, and thoughtful leader needed to run the Milwaukee County Register of Deeds Office... With his deep ties to the community and decades of service in the private sector, often serving some of the most vulnerable populations, I am confident Israel will be an exemplary public servant and is the best candidate to lead the Register’s office." Ramon was recognized by the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors in June 2023. By the initiative of Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson and Supervisor Peter Burgelis, some forty individuals and organizations were recognized by the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors and presented citations in a special meeting on June 22, 2023. "Today, we recommit Milwaukee County to supporting and uplifting the LGBTQ+ community, celebrating those who make a substantial positive impact on the LGBTQ+ community in Milwaukee County," Supervisor Burgelis stated. "Today we are making up for lost time. We have dozens of people to recognize, not because so much has been done in the past year, but because decades and even years ago, there was little to no recognition of the LGBTQ+ community. I am thankful to work with a Chairperson who enables our County Board to honor these well-deserving individuals." Recognitions were made in the categories of "Community Leaders and Activists," "Government Leaders," "Business and Cultural Leaders," and "Health and Wellness Leaders". Ramon's citation (in which they are largely self-described) read as follows:
