Nate Koch was recognized by the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors in June 2023.
By the initiative of Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson and Supervisor Peter Burgelis, some forty individuals and organizations were recognized by the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors and presented citations in a special meeting on June 22, 2023. "Today, we recommit Milwaukee County to supporting and uplifting the LGBTQ+ community, celebrating those who make a substantial positive impact on the LGBTQ+ community in Milwaukee County," Supervisor Burgelis stated. "Today we are making up for lost time. We have dozens of people to recognize, not because so much has been done in the past year, but because decades and even years ago, there was little to no recognition of the LGBTQ+ community. I am thankful to work with a Chairperson who enables our County Board to honor these well-deserving individuals."
Recognitions were made in the categories of "Community Leaders and Activists," "Government Leaders," "Business and Cultural Leaders," and "Health and Wellness Leaders". Koch's citation (in which they are largely self-described) read as follows:
- WHEREAS, Nate Koch saw a need to celebrate Pride Month and connect with the community despite the challenges associated with the Covid-19 Pandemic and the cancelation of many pride events; and
- WHEREAS, Nate Koch founded what would become known as Pride at Home, his group set-up a sign with a large number of small pride flags asking community members to make a donation to the Trevor project and display a small pride flag at their home; and
- WHEREAS, Nate Koch's new initiative Pride at Home led to numerous blocks in his neighborhood displaying small pride flags for Pride at Home; and
- WHEREAS, Nate Koch's initiative Pride at Home would expand the following year increasing the number of signs and the number of pride flags ordered, then displayed in the community; and
- WHEREAS, Nate Koch's initiative Pride at Home has now made the sign and flag ordering process digital to expand access to this initiative across the County; and
- WHEREAS, Nate Koch is recognized for founding Pride at Home which connects community members and celebrates Pride Month throughout Milwaukee County; now, therefore,
