Rebecca Ann Katherine Elizabeth Furmann was the adopted child of one of the men in the gay couple of Larry and Ric Furmann.

Becky had been born to a drug-addicted mother who also had HIV. Two men- Larry and Ric Furmann- became her foster parents when she was 10 months old. Despite having HIV, she led a fairly normal life for the first 2 years. That changed after she got cryptosporidiosis when in 1993 a problem in the City of Milwaukee's water supply caused a Cryptosporidium outbreak or epidemic that devastated many people already having immune system issues, including many in Milwaukee's gay community suffering from HIV and AIDS.

On her death, she was believed to be the last Milwaukee child still alive who was known to have been chronically infected with the waterborne parasite from the City's water supply problem.
