Community
Involvement
The M&M Club prides itself on its fundraising activities and on
being otherwise involved in community fundraisers and events in every way
practical. These are just some of the ways we help out the community as
a whole.
M's has participated in fundraising activities for PFLAG, The Wisconsin
AIDS Ride, the BESTD Clinic, and the ARCW (AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin).
The M & M Club consistently places high in teams AIDS Walk Wisconsin
in the Bar competition.
HIV
Testing- The M&M Club regularly makes its meeting room available
to the Brady East STD Clinic for BESTD's traveling HIV testing clinic.
BESTD provides anonymous HIV testing without charge (donation requested),
bringing their traveling clinic to the M&M once every few months.
The M&M has been a long-time supporter of the BESTD clinic, one of
the longest running LGBT-specific health clinics in the country.
AIDS
Fundraising- The M&M Club sponsors various events to raise money
for the AIDS walk, including a raffle, party with beer bust, and always
recruits participants for a club team for the annual AIDS Walk. The M&M
CLub is also the founding bar for the popular annual Possom Queen contest,
a fundraiser which has grown from an M&M Club contest to a city-wide
contest among many of the LGBT bars. Most of the procedes for AIDS events
in Milwaukee are administered through the Aids Resource Center of Wisconsin
(ARCW).
PrideFest- M&M typically sponsors a float for the annual
PrideFest parade, and is a proud sponso rof the annual celebration at
PrideFest (in 2000, June 9th, 10th and 11th, at the Henry W. Maier Festival
Park)
Saturday Softball League- Again in 2000, The M&M Club is one
of the local businesses that is sponsoring a team in the Milwaukee Saturday
Softball League. The league (celebrating its 23rd year) and annual Memorial
Day Weekend tournament (celebrating its 20th anniversary this year), both
sponsored in part by Miller Brewing Company, runs from early May to late
August. Most games are played on Saturday afternoons at Sijan Field, and
this year 8 teams are participating.
Bowling
League play is another long-time favorite activity of the Milwaukee
LGBT community, and the M& Club has a long tradition of hosting teams
for league play. M's hosts two teams at the present time, one each for
Sunday and Monday nite play. Bowling is at the Landmark Lanes on Milwaukee's
east side.
Metro Milwaukee Tennis League- M's is one of 8 teams to be participating
in the Sunday tennis league. Play is at 12:00 noon every Sunday this summer
in Sijan Park in Bay View.
Housed
in the Pabst Brewing Co. Saloon and Boarding House built in 1904 and
renovated in 1987, the M&M Club is now a gateway business in Milwaukee's
Historic Third Ward, where the building is the first to greet travelers
entering via the main entrance to the district from the south. The old
Pabst logo can still be seen on the Erie Street side of the building.
The M&M Club is a member business of the Historic Third Ward Association,
and is also at the southern turnaround point for the Milwaukee County
Transit System's River Route Trolley, which runs through the heart of
Milwaukee's downtown business district year-round from 9:00am to 10:00pm.
The M & M Club's involvement in community events will regularly
be reported on and mentioned in our advertisements, and listings of special
events and daily specials, in most issues of the local lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender
(LGBT) media: In Step Magazine, and Quest.
These publications are available in the M&M Club and most other LGBT
businesses throughout the state, as well as in many other outlets.
