Black Forest Inn was owned by two lovers, and was a bar with an excellent reataurant as well. The Black Forest first advertised in the September 1976 issue of the GPU News. The ad describes the ambience the owners created within the bar/ restaurant: "Return to yesteryear; enjoy an evening of fine food and drinks on the streets of Old Milwaukee". This is a good description: the decor featured tree trunks and branches, and various memorabilia and collectibles in cases from the Black Forest region of Europe/ Germany. The August 1976 issue of the local "GLIB Guide" describes the business as follows: "Novel idea, bar in the streets of Old Milwaukee. After hours restaurant. May really catch on as word spreads." The bar is fondly recalled by the author for a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, offering good drinks and excellent food. More information about this business is welcomed from anyone who can contribute it. |
