Tim Carpenter, Advocacy has always been at the heart of the fight against AIDS. Since his election to the State Legislature from Milwaukee in l984, State Senator Tim Carpenter has personified effective AIDS advocacy. Educating in the face of ignorance and fighting discrimination in the face of prejudice, Carpenter works tirelessly on behalf of people with HIV and AIDS. "I remember when I was a little kid that many people lost family and friends in the Vietnam War. AIDS is my generation’s war that continues to claim so many talented and wonderful people who we will never get back." Carpenter’s inspired AIDS advocacy has created state policies that ban HIV discrimination in health care and provide funding for AIDS prevention, care and treatment services throughout all of Wisconsin. "Health care systems always change. It’s important to me that as these changes occur we make sure that people who are most in need get the care they deserve." As a public official who embraced HIV education, prevention and treatment early on, Senator Carpenter continues to make Wisconsin a national leader in response to AIDS. "We’ve come a long way in 20 years, but many challenges remain and my commitment to the fight against AIDS is stronger than ever." |
