Puss 'n' Boots is largely a mystery. The single reference we have to it are two advertisements and a listing for it in the single issue of a short-lived magazine called 'Milwaukee Gay Guide' issued in May 1977 (labeled "Summer 1977"). One ad offers a "Free Drink" (buy one get one free), while the other ad mentions beer busts and Friday dance contest, and also says "Rooms with sauna on premises"-- which would lead one to believe it might also have been a so-called gay 'bathhouse' (i.e. place for anonymous gay sex). We have thus far found no further reference to the bar. However, the long-established lesbian and gay bar Jo'Dee's International was right across the street. We are unsure whether this was competition or had some relationship with Jo'Dee's. (The location for 'Puss 'n' Boots' was briefly resurrected as a gay bar and disco in 1982, called Stealers; but that 1982 resurrection appears to have been open only a couple of months.) More information about Puss 'n' Boots bar is welcomed from anyone who can contribute it.
