'The MadHatter' bar opened in Wausau when Ann Brunow took over the bar Masquers from David and Dan, who had previously also operated the R-Bar in Wausau.

The bar was variously referred to as two words 'Mad Hatter" versus the one-word 'Madhatter', even the logo not making the distinction clear.

The last mention found of the bar thus far is an advertisment for the 1997 Miss Central Gay Wisconsin USofA Pageant, hosted by 1996 winner Eileen Dover.
